Long Question

Q.2.  Answer the given questions in one hundred words each:

1.Describe the condition of Hamid in comparison with other kids. ?

Ans.  Hamid was an orphan as compared to other kids who had their parents.  He lived with his grandmother Ameena.  They were very poor as compared to others.  Even on Eid they did not have even a handful of grain.  He did not even have a pair of shoes to walk for three miles for Eidgah.  The other boys enjoyed rides, eating and buying toys because they had money but Hamid had only three pice which he used to buy a pair of tongs to his grandmother.

2.Justify the title of the story 'Idgah' ?

Ans.  Idgah is a story of four year orphan boy Hamid who lives with his grand-mother Ameena.  Premchand has portrayed the emotion of this young boy very superiorly in this story.  Even though Hamid has lost his parenta and his condition is very poor, he is very positive and happy child.  In the story, it is the time of Eid and he has only three paise to spend in the fair.  Hamid dismissed the waste of money on momentary pleasure and enjoyment buys a pair of tongs for his grandmother who used to burn her fingers while cooking.  This shows the spirit of Eid which says that we should be concerned for others, we should be selfless and we should have a big heart.  So the title Eidgah is opt.

3.According to Hamid, what are the advantages of his tongs ?

Ans.  According to Hamid, the pair of tongs were unbreakable as compared to the toys made of clay which could break when you threw them to the ground.  The pair of tongs were a toy as they would be likea gun when put on shoulders.  They can be used as a pair of cymbals.  They were like a brave tiger.  They were better than only other toy bought by the other children from Eidgah.
